Bellator 51: Jessie Riggleman Defeats the #2 Ranked Bantam in the World, Farkhad Sharipov
Sunday, 25 September 2011 04:47

Has returning to work after a 6 month "vacation" ever been this good for anyone else?

Jessie Riggleman received the call from Rick McCoy, his manager, and founder of MMA Institute (for those who don't already know). Rick called to see if Jessie would be interested in taking a fight on Bellator 51 against Farkhad Sharipov (13-3). The catch was that it would take place in 2 weeks.

It may be no surprise to anyone who knows Jessie personally that he didn't hesitate to accept the fight, even though he had little time to prepare. Not only did he accept on short notice, he hadn't been in the gym training for about 6 months! After winning 14 of his last 16 fights (Amateur & Pro), I'd say that he definitely deserved a break.

Jessie's "extended leave" from the gym didn't seem to matter much in Canton, OH last night! In Round 3, Jessie had Sharipov against the cage as he worked for a takedown. Once he was able to connect his hands, he secured the win with a big slam (a slam that really has to be seen to be appreciated!). BloodyElbow.com ranks Sharipov #2 overall in their "2011 World MMA Bantamweight Scouting Report."

That was an incredible win! Great job winning your Bellator debut Jessie!!! We're all looking forward to having you back in the gym!
